A short walk from Morjim Beach, but hidden away by majestic antique doors, is the tropical zen- garden of the Ku "energy retreat".  Through the gates, walk down the stepping stones of a Japanese inspired pond, flanked on either side by two wooden cottages comprising the guest accommodations to the open kitchen and restaurant.
KU IS NO LONGER OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

THE PLACE

Morjim's first and still one of the area's most unique resorts, Ku epitomizes the concept of "Boutique Hotel".  Truly unique, Ku describes itself as an "energy retreat", replete with a luxurious tropical garden, a walk-way of stepping stones over a Japanese inspired pond, two individual hand-crafted wooden huts for accommodations and an open-air restaurant on its mezzanine with views of lush paddy fields and the beach beyond.

The intimate and exquisite hide-away is not only surrounded by nature, but is built with it, where every facet of the resort has been created entirely of natural material. Hidden-away behind towering antique doors, Ku's secret garden transports you to another time and place, while the area's hip hang-outs are a mere minute's walk away.

A ZEN HOTEL & RESTAURANT

ACCOMMODATIONS

    • Ku's two guestrooms comprise two individual 80 square meter Japanese wooden houses built entirely by hand. The cottages feature wooden floors and a wooden shoji (traditional Japanese sliding doors and windows) facing the lush tropical garden and water path. Each cottage has an allocated bathroom with shower areas, while one hut offers a romantic bathtub in the centre of the room.
    •
    • A night at Ku also includes a delectable breakfast spread, with tropical fruit juices and eggs to order, which may be served anywhere in the Ku property or in the privacy of the cottage.
    •

THE RESTAURANT

  • Ku's restaurant, under its current management, offers simple, authentic healthy and absolutely delicious Goan and Maharashtran thalis-  a traditional fare where individual dishes are served up in small metal bowls aesthetically arranged on a large metal plate.  The seafood option features delectable curries of clams, fish or prawns. The dishes are changed regularly based on demand and the day's catch!
  •
  • The restaurant is open daily, during the season and to all.
  • Timings: 1:00 pm- 5:00 pm | 7:30 pm-10:30 pm
  • Veg Thali: Rs. 280  Fish Thali: Rs. 350

THE STORY

Imagine a place with no walls to sever the flow of sight, no windows and no doors because none are required. How do you close an open space? How do you bottle up and market unadulterated nature? You can't and you don't. You live in harmony with it if you are wise, and you share it with others if you want to experience its ultimate reward.

Ku derives its name from the Chinese translation of the Sanskrit word: Śūnyatā, which means emptiness or void, and which Hindu and Buddhist traditions agree "is the absolute dimension of our life".

Ku is the creation of Maria Perez (a former model and a New York gallery owner) and Christian Perrot who met 12 years ago in Paris, a couple who have known many homes since then. Their nomadic nature is a reason for Ku being the way it is.  Each element of the 1,000 sq meter property has been lovingly created by hand, where the older structures comprise pieces brought back from a previous house in the jungle and the newer ones of freshly planted trees, all transformed to create the unique property that is Ku, without sacrificing any intrinsic shape.

Ku is the most photographed hotel in Goa, and has been featured on the cover of Travel+Leisure Asia in December 2008 and in Elle Decor, Tatler, Condé Nast Traveller, Travel Leisure Asia and Vogue.
