Named after Dr. Salim Ali, India's most celebrated ornithologist, this picturesque sanctuary encompasses a modest area of 1.78 sq. kms. of mangroves vegetation interspersed with tributaries and inland streams. Located on the south-western tip of Chorao Island on the Mandovi River, this reserve is home to several species of local as well as migratory birds. Getting there: Take the Ribandar- Charao ferry from Panaji, then take a short walk to reach the sanctuary. We recommend a canoe-trip fitted with an outboard motor.
