Founded in 2010 as The Sol, this charming property was conceived by Suraj Morajkar, whose company, Sun Estates Developers, was also responsible for building the hotel. Arvind D’Souza was the architect of the project, while the interiors were designed by India’s renowned fashion designer, Tarun Tahiliani. In 2012, the management of the hotel was taken over by Boston East India Hotels; The Sol was rebranded as" The Sofala" and made a part of the Troca Collection.
Originally conceived as 4 town houses, The Sofala exudes a charming residential ambiance while boasting all the comforts of a modern luxury hotel. For Suraj Morajkar the hotel was his dream project. “ I wanted to create a space full of luxury and warmth that makes guests experience the atmosphere and charm of Old Goa. The hotel is inspired by an age when you could hear the strum of a guitar on a quiet night, and homes were filled with the sounds of clinking glasses and conversation.”
Since the recent rebranding in 2012, Tarun Tahiliani, the hotel’s original interior designer, worked closely with the new management’s design team to refresh the interiors of the guest rooms in vibrant colour palettes and replenish it with new artwork. The revamp additionally boasts a brand new bar, an additional restaurant and an infinity pool with a terrace deck that overlooks the historic Candolim Church. With the renovation, The Sofala exudes a more cosmopolitan feel while remaining true to the hotel’s essence and original layout.
“Walking into The Sofala lifts my spirits,” says Tarun Tahiliani. “We created The Sofala as a Goan heritage design fused with delicious luxury that stares through the courtyard into the starlit sky with the palms swaying over the emerald pool! Personalised service and warmth and the Zen of the paddy fields...”
