Located right on the picturesque beach of Morjim is the chilled-out, Russian owned restaurant-lounge, Bora Bora. Open 24 hours, the beachfront lounge draws largely a Russian clientele, though it caters to travellers from across the globe. The menu is eclectic, the music is always on and always good (the owner is a DJ), and the beach in front is pristine. With services like a kindergarten for the kids and kite-surfing classes for adventurous adults, it is easy to see why Goa's Bora Bora is one of the area's most popular and most talked-about destinations.

Set on Morjim's idyllic beach, Bora Bora is a popular beachside restaurant that is open 24 hours a day. Owned by a Russian DJ and a Russian kite-surfing instructor, the Bora Bora vibe is supremely cool and laid-back, with good music always wafting through its speakers throughout the day and free WiFi for everyone. The shack directly faces a pristine stretch of near-private beach and offers private sun-beds and kite-surfing classes on its sandy front. Its loyal patrons often travel from the farthest end of North Goa to spend the entire day here.

The owner is a family man, and great lengths have been taken at this pleasant beach café to entertain the kids, from a special kindergarten service in the morning to cartoon screenings every day. Meanwhile, being a 24 hour restaurant, Bora Bora also caters to Goa's more adult crowds in the later hours of the evening till early morning.

The menu at Bora Bora is truly eclectic, featuring everything from Russian favourites, Italian pasta and pizzas to Japanese and Thai popular plates. The house specialty is the pizza, baked in a wood-fired oven that was handcrafted by the owner himself. A more exotic favourite is Thai Spring Roll of glass noodles. Other significant draws are the desserts and dishes created of their home-made cottage cheese, including Russian comfort food, Sirniki, a deep fried pancake of cottage cheese served with sour cream.

The cottage cheese has been a Bora Bora speciality since it opened seven years ago. Created of milk specially sourced from an organic dairy farm, the cottage cheese here has proven to be so popular that there are plans now of supplying it to local grocery stores.

Open 24 hours, the Bora Bora not only feeds Goa's revelling night crowds, but has also become a transit stop for visitors arriving from the airport in the late night. Taxis are taken directly from the airport to Bora Bora in the wee hours of the morning, and it is not usual to find customers relaxing here with suitcases at hand as they sort out their accommodations.

In its early days, Bora Bora was reputed to be one the area's prime beach-party spots. The  café has now evolved into a more quieter, family space with only a handful of parties organized during the season, including New Year's Eve and Dima's (the owner) annual birthday soiree. However, Bora Bora parties are organized in other key venues across North Goa, targeting Goa's Russian clientele.

Bora Bora was originally owned by Tito's, Goa's famed hospitality brand, and was being run as a quaint beach shack. In 2004, the Russian duo, both named Dima, took over the ownership and kept the name.

Over the years, Bora Bora has become a focal point of the Russian visitors in Goa and has become increasingly popular with other tourists for its 24 hour kitchen service, its pizzas, fresh cottage cheese, and for the occasional Bora Bora party. Not only popular, Bora Bora is also reputable, garnering many reviews and mentions in Indian as well as Russian Press and Media.

Bora Bora partner, Dima Smirnof, is a DJ and family man, who lives in Goa with his wife, daughter and dog. He ensures the music at Bora Bora is maintained at an international standard and also headlines at parties across Goa under his DJ name, DJ Dupont, playing everything from House, Tech house, and  Progressive trance. Stay tuned to the WUG calendar and watch this space for party details.

The other partner, Vladimir, is an avid adventure-sportsman and certified kite-surfing instructor, offering lessons from the beach station located just in front of Bora Bora.
